CHS Teachers Report March 2021

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of our first term at CHS! On the whole, it has been a very smooth process getting SRE up and 威而鋼 running, the classes have been well received, and the curriculum is working well. It’s clear that SRE has a lot of goodwill at the school and I feel very much welcomed into and a part of the school community. I’ve been able to assimilate into the school community, getting to know staff and students alike, and Richard (the Deputy) has been a particularly helpful and invaluable resource for me. I have been working with him discussing the profile of SRE at the school – it’s become clear that it’s time for a “refresher” so that parents in particular can be better informed as to what SRE actually is, and how it may be of benefit to their children. Hopefully next term we’ll be able to get some revised information out in schoolwide newsletters.

One of the main logistical challenges has been to do with the changes that are happening on the school grounds at the moment. There is a lot of construction work under way and over the upcoming holidays there are a number of large buildings that will be demolished. This has meant that especially towards the end of the term, a lot of room changes and reallocations have had to take place, which although has been somewhat frustrating, is something I’ve been able to work around. On the plus side there is definitely a sense of solidarity amongst the staff in that we are all in this together!

Coming into this role I am well aware that the fruit of our labours may not be immediately apparent. However, God has been gracious and I’ve received some very positive and encouraging feedback from a number of students. After one of my classes, there was a student who stayed behind after the bell and said: “Sir, do we have SRE lessons every term this year? I didn’t use to enjoy SRE, but now it’s my favourite subject, and I really think about the things we discuss in class.” Just the other day, another student came up to me in the playground and said: “Sir, I’ve been trying to read the Bible for myself. I’ve never done it before and I’m going to start in Genesis and work my way through the book.” I was blown away by both of these stories. Hearing how these students have been impacted by SRE is more than enough motivation to press on and continue trusting God.

Thanks as always for your constant support, prayers and encouragement, it’s a privilege to partner with you in this way!

Adrian

Prayer Points

  • Thank God for the recent lifting of essentially all COVID-related restrictions as it pertains to SRE, allowing lunchtime groups to continue, larger assemblies and multiple teachers in the classroom.
  • Pray that more and more local churches would hear about and want to support the ministry of REACH.
  • Pray that the school community would be able to adapt to the changes associated with the ongoing construction work, and that it would result in minimal disruption to SRE.
  • Pray that we would have a good retention rate of students from term to term, and that we would have more enrolments later in the year.
